Nice!! I like the blue. The gloves and jacket match. :)

Thanks Rat!

Sometimes my background in color matching shows! But in reality, both the blue on the gloves and the jacket are a little more to the red shade than the bike and the gloves have a bit more chroma than the jacket.

You can't tell at 50 mph though!

Good riddance last week

I am SO glad last week is in the past!

Just a quick rundown of last week's fun.

The brakes failed on my car. It neede a new Master Cylinder - $320.00 and only 1 car for 3 days!

Had a very contentious meeting at church Tuesday night. Lots of angry people getting more angry as other's expressed opposing opinions.

The oil tank sprung a leak. People in and out of the house all week. We have drums of oil lines up in the yard and a drum of oil next to the furnace with all sorts of tubes going hither and yon.

I went to take a shower Wednesday night. Nice idea but when I turned on the shower - no water! Apparently a water main broke down the street! Happily it was fixed in the morning.

I attended a "short course" in Philadelphia on Thursday and Friday. All in all it was good, but to get there at 8:00am meant getting up at 5:00am in order to shower, get ready walk to the train station and get into the city. 5:00 am is not my favorite time to wake up.

I played golf yesterday in an outing for work. Good points - hanging out with some good folks, drinking beer all day - low points - All 4 of my group suck at golf!, the weather was very cool, cloudy and windy and we were the last group so only minimal food was left when we got done.

I am hoping this week brings only positive things.

The joys of an old house!

23:18 Apr 15 2010

So, last night Chrissy came upstairs and said..."Dad, we here a wierd dripping sound downstairs."

Off I go to investigate. I can't find anything..

About a half hour later I walk into the kitchen and smell oil.

So, back down to the basement. There is a puddle of oil near the fuel oil tank. Get on my habds and knees and crawl around on the floor and, I'll be damned, there is a leak in the very bottom of the oil tank.

So we called the oil company emergency number and a service guy came out and stopped the leak temporarily.

This morning a crew came out and they had to pump all of the oil out of the tank. Everyone was just SO glad that they had come by on Monday and filled it slap full!

They had to rig up a drum of oil near the furnace with tubing coming out of it so we have hot water and we have 5 other 55 gallon drums of oil sitting in the flower bed outside the basement window.

They will now have to come and cut apart the old tank with torches to get it out of the house and then figure out how to get a new one down there!

Joy!

Wow...sounds......like trouble. But the good thing is.....you found it before it caught fire or exploded....or some other worse thing. See....there is a positive. :)

We bought our house in August, and in October, a few days before we left on our week long vacation, I got in the shower, only to be doused in freezing water within a few minutes. Yup, the water heater that was "good to go" according to the home inspector sprung a leak. It took a 2 day hunt for estimates, a 8 hour wait for the guy to get there Friday (he said he would be there between 10 and 2; he didn't get there until 4 (and Scott came home from work sick as a dog just before this nerd arrived) and $1100 to fix...at least that is one less thing we have to worry about replacing.

Hey, if you own the old tank, keep it for the scrap. Scrap iron is going for about $120/ton around here.

Would it be appropriate to shoot a car the way they used to shoot "broke down" horses? You know, to put it out of it's misery.

Fire a round directly into the radiator slightly above the alternator; this generally does the trick, without too much suffering for the poor thing...unless, of course, its a Toyota-then you will have to blungeon it to death with a five pound sledge; this will take a while, and it will be messy, but you'll feel great afterwards, my friend.

I'm with him- while a bullet to the engine block might be more humane, smashing a recalcitrant car to smithereens is probably the most satisfying way to vent I can think of, next to demo'ing a bathroom or kitchen...lol

$ Down the drain..

So a couple weeks ago I came home sick from work on a Tuesday. Went to the Dr. he put me on meds and told me to stay home the next day.

When I parked my car there was no issue with it.

I did not leave the house Tuesday afternoon, or all day Wednesday. On the Thursday I walk out to the car to drive to work. There is a huge crack across the windshield!

NO ONE has ANY idea what could have caused it.

Everyone denies using my car at all.

David says he wasn't throwing anything around the yard, wasn't trying skateboard stunts etc.

It is a true mystery of the ages.

But it cost me almost $250.00 buck for a new windshield!

Mine did that due to a sudden temperature change. And we were in an underground parking lot at the mall, and heading home because it had started snowing again (this was last winter). All Scott did was turn on the wipers to get rid of the snow that had slid off the roof, and then we sat there and watched the crack crawl up the windshield

Who knows what lurks in the spooky garage?

So I cleaned out and oranized the garage today to make room for the arrival of my motorcycle.

It was going very well until I went to move a five gallon pail that I kept bird seed in.

Somehow the lid was ajar. There was only a handful of seed in the bucket when I put it in the garage in the fall. Somehow some mice found their way into the bucket and ate the seed. Sadly their planning was quite poor as they were unable to get out of the bucket!

I found 7 stinky mouse carcasses in the bottom of the bucket.

Yuck!

To answer the questions...

I am buying the bike from a good friend of ours. He bought a bigger bike and was selling this one, which is rated as one of the best "Starter" bikes. I used to ride dirt bikes "back in the day" but haven't been on one for many years, so I figured it best to start small.

It is a 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan 500:

Real Vampires love Vampire Rave

The tax refund showed up in our account overnight so I will be getting it fairly soon. My friend, however, won't sell it to me until he rides it enough to get the old last years gas out of it and has it inspected. You have to love a guy to goes the etra mile!

I already ordered on line a GOOD helmet (a new model Bel just released which is both DOT and Snell rated) as well as a riding jacket and riding gloves.

So, yeah, I promise to be careful.

Now I just have to wait for my tax return to show up.

I went and got a motorcycle learner's permit yesterday and also signed up for a riding class.
